The ongoing demolition of the Inn on the Park, designed by WZMH Architects, means that the hexagonal modernist hotel at Leslie Street and Eglinton Avenue East will soon be another building lost in Toronto's development history. An earlier wing of the hotel by the late Peter Dickinson was already lost to a Toyota dealership years ago.

Now with the Crosstown LRT under construction along Eglinton Avenue and a station planned steps away at the foot of Leslie Street, we are learning about a multi-tower mixed-use redevelopment proposal for the site.

On January 26th, an application was submitted to the City of Toronto Planning Department, proposing to rezone and subdivide approximately 2.07 hectares of land for a new mixed-use development consisting of four residential buildings with heights of 28, 29, 34 and 39 storeys. 1,380 residential units and a total of 943 square metres of at-grade commercial uses are proposed including 20 three-storey back to back townhouses over two blocks.

The entire development would be connected via a shared below-grade four-level parking garage containing 1,246 spaces for residents and another 151 for visitors. The site would be bisected by a new public road, providing direct access to and from the site via a signalized intersection at Leslie Street.

This proposal is still in its infancy, but we will be sure to return with more information as details about the project emerge. In the meantime, you can join in the conversation by checking out the associated Forum thread.
