Details are emerging about a new condominium development a block from UrbanToronto's offices just east of Downtown. The site at 53-55 Ontario Street first came onto our radar in October of 2014, when an application to demolish the four-storey building on site was filed and subsequently approved. Demolition came soon after, and now we are learning about the new project destined for the site, being marketed as East FiftyFive, by Lamb Development Corp and Hyde Park Homes.
The initial rendering released to promote the development depicts a 24-storey, architectsAlliance-designed tower inclusive of a seven-storey podium, clad in a dark charcoal brick with a massing that relates to the height of the neighbouring commercial building to the south. The white-framed tower portion is reminiscent of another Lamb/aA partnership, The Brant Park, which is currently under construction on Adelaide Street West. Here the frames vary in width, zigzagging up the structure to playful effect.
In mid-December 2014, an application was filed to allow the construction of a temporary sales centre building, which could be erected onsite as of April 1st this year and removed by the same date in 2016.
We will return with additional information as details about the development continue to emerge. In the meantime, you can check out more detail shots of the 'hero' rendering by visiting our dataBase file for the project, linked below. Want to get involved in the discussion?
