Completed in 1931, the north tower of Commerce Court originally opened as the headquarters of the Canadian Bank of Commerce, and was for over three decades the tallest building in Toronto. More than 80 years of growth have pushed the limestone-clad, 34-storey tower way down, and the building no longer places even on the top 100 tallest buildings in the country. In today's Photo of the Day, which was submitted to the UrbanToronto Flickr Pool by Jonathan Castellino, we can see the historic skyscraper surrounded by the much taller modern office towers of Toronto's Financial District.
