Earlier this month we took a look at the recent construction progress of Lifetime Developments and Great Gulf Homes' X2 Condominiums, a 49-storey, Wallman Architects-designed condominium tower now topped off at the corner of Jarvis and Charles Streets. When we last looked at the building's progress, cladding installation had just been completed around X2's open-air mechanical penthouse, and in the few weeks since our last visit, work has begun on the disassembly of the project's tower crane.
In the image above, a temporary derrick can be seen on the roof of the building, in yellowy-orange paint, preparing to remove the black-and-white-painted tower crane used to construct the tower, while in the image below, we are provided with a close-up view of the derrick and tower crane side by side.
Over the past few days, crews have been hard at work using the temporary derrick to lower the disassembled the tower crane pieces to the ground, one piece at a time. In the following image, we can see a section of the crane's jib arm being lowered down X2's north façade and on to Charles Street below.
The Mies van der Rohe-inspired design of X2 and its neighbour/sibling X Condos serve as the eastern bookend to a modernist condominium corridor growing along Charles Street East, which also features recent, ongoing and future developments like CHAZ Yorkville Condos as well as Casa I, II and III. In the image below, we are provided with a view of the X2 development along with its high-rise neighbours like Verve, X, 500 Sherbourne, and more as seen from Regent Park.
