Toronto isn't the only city in the GTA which is growing rapidly. With over a three quarters of a million people now living within its boundaries, Mississauga is no longer a sparsely inhabited bedroom community but instead, a thriving city with a growing downtown skyline. Recently completed on its western edge is a the first phase of a multi-towered high-rise 'village', one which is adding a major shot of pedestrian life to the intersection of Confederation Parkway and Princess Royal Drive.

Parkside Village Residences by developer Amacon is comprised of three towers, two of which stand 36 storeys tall with the tallest standing at 45 storeys in height. With most residents now moved in and many businesses already open, the streets around the development are now buzzing with activity, and it's not all on account of the car, the mode of transport most associated with Mississauga.

Designed by Richmond Architects with consultation from Zeidler Partnership Architects, the three towers of Parkside Village Residences, or PSV, are connected via a shared podium which ranges in size from three to seven storeys. The northeast corner of the site—at Confederation Parkway and Arbutus Way—is now anchored by an eight-storey mid-rise building featuring a curved profile on the upper three storeys of the corner (the eighth storey is hidden behind the concrete lip), while a similar seven-storey section sans the curved corner can be found to the south at Confederation and Curran Place.

In the image below, we can see that the development's retail units are starting to fill up. Retailers at PSV include the already-open-for-business Starbucks, as well as a Panago pizza restaurant, an RBC bank branch, and an All Star Ribs and Wings restaurant. Much attention to detail has been paid at ground level to articulate the retail spaces' frontages which hug the development's sidewalks.

That construction site just to the right is the next phase at Parkside Village now under way, while the cleared areas hugging the first phase will be home to subsequent phases soon enough. In behind are various other condominium developments built over the last decade around Mississauga's famous mall, and close to its Post-Modern City Hall, the Living Arts performing arts centre, main library, and civic square. A new campus of Sheridan College also recently joined the mix here. Hints of all of those buildings can be seen in the image above, but another recent pair of local icons can also be made out poking above the curved horizon—the Absolute World condominiums a.k.a the Marilyn towers—completed in the last couple of years by Cityzen and Fernbrook Homes.
