Before we had smartphones, social media and 24-hour news, knowing what the weather had in store for the day wasn't anywhere near as easy as it is today. If you were to find yourself in mid 20th-century Toronto and saw heavy clouds rolling in, the quickest way to check the weather would be to look at the illuminated weather beacon atop the Canada Life Building at Queen and University. Though we can now get weather updates at our fingertips in seconds, the weather beacon still gets updated four times a day by Environment Canada, alerting passerby to the weather conditions. Today's Photo of the Day, submitted to the UrbanToronto Flickr Pool by Matt M S, shows the weather beacon as a helicopter flies by above.
