A few days remain until the United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC) holds their 22nd annual National Apprenticeship Competition at Roundhouse Park, located immediately south of the CN Tower in Downtown Toronto. The competition was started in the early 1990s as a way for UBC to showcase the training and skills they impart to their trainees, and in the time since, the National Apprenticeship Competition has grown to become the premiere proving ground for Canadian apprentices.

The competition also serves the purpose of getting youth interested and involved in the trades, as well as bolstering interest from the general community. Apprentices in the trades of Carpentry, Millwright, Interior Systems, and Floor Covering Installer, will all have the chance to compete for Gold, Silver and Bronze awards with every province selecting one apprentice from each trade to compete in the contest.

The competition will be judged by a panel of experts from various different trades, including business owners and instructors, both from within and outside the UBC. Winners will be announced for each of the trades during an awards ceremony at the end of the three-day event's final day.

National Apprenticeship Competition

The event runs from August 21st to August 23rd, 2014, with the free publicly viewable part of the competition occurring from 8 AM to 4 PM on Saturday the 23rd at Roundhouse Park.
