Just to the northeast of Eglinton and Mount Pleasant Avenues is the corner of Roehampton and Rawlinson Avenues. To the east are single family homes and to the north is Northern Secondary School, but to the south and west are a pair of rental apartment towers of half a dozen owned and managed by the KG Group, and another one is about to join them.
While the majority of our stories on new housing cover the construction of condos, it's worth it from time to time to be reminded that there has been a recent resurgence in the construction of new purpose-built rental accommodation in Toronto. Over the last few months we have run stories of new rental projects by Concert, Morguard, Shiplake, along with others, and now KG Group joins the list with a new tower at their 299 Roehampton property.
Photographed on a regular basis by UrbanToronto Forum contributor Roundabout, this latest project by the KG Group will be a 210-unit, 14-storey tower designed by Kirkor Architects. We don't know a lot more about the project than that; 7 rental townhomes have come down on the site, and elevations in the application to the City indicate that there will be a couple of stepbacks as the building rises, but there are no renderings out in the public realm so far.
High quality renderings are expensive to produce, and when you're going ahead with a building without having to lure purchasers in advance, the images become an unnecessary expense. Owing to that, we don't know very much about how this building will end up looking, but the most recent image, included below and up-to-date to today, shows that the building is well beyond the first stepback, and that the first precast panels have been installed on the ground and second levels facing Roehampton Avenue. The remainder of the coming exterior detail is a mystery for the moment!
