When the initial elevated sections of the Gardiner Expressway through downtown Toronto were built in the 1960s, they stood well above their immediate surroundings. Now, much of the once industrial and rail related land surrounding the elevated highway has been redeveloped, creating an impressive canyon for commuters travelling through the city on the Gardiner. Today's Photo of the Day, submitted to the UrbanToronto Flickr Pool by contributor Freaktography, puts us high above the Gardiner Expressway, facing west over the Air Canada Centre, CN Tower, Rogers Centre, and several high-rise condominiums.
