Toronto's City Hall has become an iconic modernist landmark since opening in 1965, following in the footsteps of its architecturally significant predecessor, located across Bay Street to the east. Old City Hall was designed by famed Toronto architect E.J. Lennox in the Romanesque Revival style of architecture common during the mid to late 19th century. Old City Hall's detailed exterior masonry and ornate interiors contributed to the architectural gem being spared during the mid-20th century purge of historic architecture in Toronto, and still remains in use today as a courthouse. Today's Photo of the Day comes to us from H.Y. Photography, who submitted his photo of Old City Hall's interior to the UrbanToronto Flickr pool.
