One of the biggest additions to UrbanToronto in the last few weeks has been a whole new section of our dataBase, one that's devoted to the companies that we follow. Those companies are the developers, the architects, the interior designers, the landscape architects, the builders, the marketing and press agents, and the sales teams that are part of the process that creates new buildings, new parks, and new infrastructure in our city. This means that you have a very fast new way of accessing the collected works by any particular firm from the list on one clearly arranged page. Here is how it works:

Click on the dataBase link at the top of any urbantoronto.ca web page. That will take you to the default dataBase page, the one which presents all of the projects we are tracking. Near the upper left you'll see a grayed-out box labeled 'company dataBase'. Click on that, and you will be presented with an alphabetically ordered list of all of the companies connected with at least one of our project dataBase files.

If you're just browsing, scroll up and down through the full list until your interest is piqued, or if you have something specific in mind, but you're unsure of the name you're looking for, you may want to narrow the list down. Check boxes attached to the filter on the left side allow you to focus on just the company types you're interested in. Once you've found the company you want info on, clicking on the blue link will produce a page showing that firm's work. In the example below, we've scrolled down to the Ws and clicked on Wallman Architects.

The top of the Wallman Architects profile page currently comes back as above. Contact information is followed by a list of articles on UrbanToronto that include news about Wallman Architects (we're closing in on 200 articles), and that's followed by all of the projects of theirs that we track, which currently number 20. Those project links take you to all the renderings and info of course, while the associated Forum thread links will take you to the conversations covering those projects. No doubt there is no other place on the internet that has more information on Wallman!

That's an easy claim to make in that case, as Wallman Architects do not yet have an official website. If they did, we would have included that info too, as you will see in the next company profile page below:

Lifetime Development's logo, statement, and web contact info are also included here, along with the list of articles followed by the project files.

In the case of both examples above, and in fact with all company profile pages, you'll see a 'Report Changes' link at the upper right. Whether you work for the company profiled or not, at that link you can alert us to an error, omission, or update to any of the info shown on the page. We will happily investigate and make any necessary changes.

We think UrbanToronto readers and profiled companies will get a lot out of this new feature, and we are interested to hear from anyone who has benefitted from it. Leave a note in the space provided below… or visit a company profile page, and click on the Report Changes link. Have fun exploring!
