Excavation work is nearly complete in preparation for Madison Homes’ eponymous twin-tower condominium development, The Madison. Work at the site on Eglinton Avenue, two blocks east of Yonge, commenced last winter with the demolition of the old York Theatre and two adjacent structures. Now, nearly thirteen months later, the almost fully excavated site is gearing up to begin its ascent, slated to bring the 644 unit, Kirkor Architects-designed 33 and 30-storey towers and an 8-storey mixed-use podium to the site.
Since construction hoarding was erected around the site just over a year ago, various Urban Toronto Forum members have contributed countless photos, providing a thorough photographic timeline of the project’s early stage progress. The following images span from February 2012 up until the current date in March 2013, starting off with the demolition of properties along Eglinton.
Once demolition wrapped up in the spring of 2012, the stage was set for the shoring and excavation phase of the project:
As the pit began to form, the photos of ongoing work at The Madison continued to roll in.
And now we see a photo of the nearly fully excavated site, captured yesterday.
Once completed in 2015, The Madison will boast a wide array of amenities, occupying over 28,000 square feet of floor space. Residents of the building will have access to a 24 hour concierge, game room, gym and exercise facilities, private movie theatre, party room, roof deck, sauna and swimming pool to name a few.
The development is planned to bring over 56,000 square-feet of retail space to the Yonge and Eglinton neighbourhood. The retail space will occupy two double-height floors in The Madison’s podium. 16,000 square feet of yet-to be-announced retailers will be found on the ground floor, while a 40,000 square-foot Loblaws grocery store is promised for the second floor. Both retail floors are to be connected by three dedicated elevators and an open escalator.
