Bay street north of City Hall has seen quite an amazing shift in its image as well as its uses in the last few years, with new projects in the neighbourhood like Motion, Burano, and The Sick Kids Research and Learning Tower adding to the street. The corner of Bay and St Joseph is no exception with the soon to rise 1Thousand Bay Condos. It's practically right across the street from the former Sutton Place Hotel, itself soon to become The Britt condos. Developed by Cresford, 1Thousand Bay will rise 32 storeys where the Bay-Cloverhill neighbourhood meets the east side of the U of T campus. Although the construction process is still in its earliest stages, we've got a couple recent pictures of the site.

You will notice in the picture above the former Bistro 990, which for those of you that don't know was a staple restuarant for local and internationl celebrities over its 23 year history especially during the Toronto International Film Festival. The shine came off the restaurant somewhat after TIFF moved its base (along with the movie stars!) from the Yorkville area down to its new headquarters at the TIFF Bell Lightbox at King and John. Along with Bistro 990, the yellow brick building to the south and the parking lot will make way for this architectsAlliance designed building. Although construction is not slated to complete untill 2015, you can check out a rendering of what we can expect below.
