Phase 2 of the Regent Park Revitalization is well underway with the completion of the Paintbox condominiums, sitting atop the Daniels Spectrum (formerly Regent Park Arts and Cultural Centre) and the Paintbox Bistro, the newest addition to this destination. Like the Daniels Spectrum in which it is housed, the Paintbox Bistro was conceived as a community-building, cultural space where residents of Regent Park work and play alongside visitors to this revitalized area.

At the northeast corner of the Daniels Spectrum base, the Paintbox Bistro continues the modern, clean lines designed by Diamond + Schmitt Architects. With a takeout window opening onto Dundas Street, a patio on the west side of the building and floor-to-ceiling windows, the bistro opens to the outside and invites us in. Once inside, the modern angles and fun colours reflect the playful and colourful cladding of the outside, and the wooden tables and bar, along with a wall of knick knacks, warm up the atmosphere.

The Paintbox Bistro is not only a restaurant serving Regent Park, it is a catering company that serves downtown Toronto, a training centre for local residents and a business development hub for start-up companies. Like its namesake, it's a space that contains a variety of inspiring possibilities, just waiting to be explored. A rarity in the restaurant business, the Paintbox Bistro is anchored by its social mandate — to "cook. serve. share." The restaurant features local fare, made and served by staff from the neighbourhood, trained at George Brown Chef School. Customers who dine here engage in the building of community while sharing the benefits.

The Paintbox Bistro is open Monday to Friday for lunch and dinner, Tuesday to Saturday for bar service until 2am and Saturday and Sunday for brunch and dinner. Check it out and feel good about your consumption/contribution!
