Streetcar Development's most recent project, The Carnaby, drew its name from London's famous Carnaby Street. The street was centre stage in the 1960s and '70s for London's booming Mod and Hippie culture, and is now one of the major pedestrianzied shopping streets within the city. Inspired by the street's roots in the '60s and '70s, design firm Seven Haus is looking to incorporate prints, colors and patterns from that era with contemporary finishes and modern simplicity.

Residents will enter the two-storey lobby, featuring vividly coloured cantilevered forms reminiscent of the playfulness seen in 1960s Pop Art. A gunmetal front desk and chairs make for a sleek interior, reflected in the neturally-coloured walls and floor, which further exaggerate the insallation above.

The party room will feature an extensive social space, with douglas fir panels reminiscent of mid-century design along the walls, as well as a media lounge highlighted by polished limestone floors surrounded by rich hardwood.

The highlight of the project is the extensive outdoor terrace — the renderings are clearly contemporary with little influence from the past, showing angular chairs and large day beds amongst oversized, dramatic black planters. The view from the space is sure to be impressive, overlooking Liberty Village to the south, Beaconsfield Village to the east, and the downtown skyline beyond.
