It's been pretty quiet here at UrbanToronto since the holidays, however development seems to be picking up again as everyone shakes off their turkey-induced comas. We're taking a look at a new development proposal for 71 - 95 King Street East today, brought to our attention by forum member androiduk.

Submitted on January 17, the propsal encompasses King Street from Leader Lane (parking lot beside the King Edward Hotel) to the Albany Club. It calls for a 21-storey mixed use development, with retail on the ground floor, with residential units above.

Forum members were quick to respond to the proposal, noting the historic character of the existing buildings along this stretch of King Street. The buildings are not listed on the city of Toronto's heritage database, and are not part of an existing heritage conservation district. They are however part of the current heritage conservation district proposal for the larger St. Lawrence Market area, which is currently working its way through city hall.

No word yet on who the developer is, or what the project may look like – keep an eye out here for more information.
