We bet most of you had no idea that directly southwest of the corner of Yonge and St. Clair lies (no pun intended) a cemetery. Today's Photo Of The Day by Craig White shows the small St. Michael's Cemetery which is surrounded by buildings on all sides. Access is through a small lane-way between two stores on Yonge Street

The Roman Catholic cemetery opened in 1855 and closed around 1900 when it hit capacity. Believe it or not but 29,000 people are buried here.

The photo was taken from the former Imperial Oil building which Camrost-Felcorp is converting into a condo called Imperial Plaza. This view will change somewhat as a new tower will be built by Camrost-Felcorp's to the south of Imperial Plaza slightly blocking the cemetery.
