On June 28 we wrote about the plans for a 23 storey hotel at 906 Yonge, currently the home of the soon to be departing Ridpath Furniture. The plan would also feature a 30 storey condo at the back of the site at 25 McMurrich Street. The developers are proposing that the current Tudor Revival style facade of Ridpath will remain and will be incorporated as the front of the hotel. Here's the store as it appears today.

And here's what it should look like as a hotel according to the developers.

Well some UrbanToronto forum members have some ideas of their own. Rather than doing the usual Toronto facadectomy, tear down old building but save facade which is then placed on the new building, they propose having some fun with it. Here's UrbanToronto forum member Canadian National's view on things:

Put Ridpaths on top of the structure. It'll be darling, controversial, and confuse the facadectomy habit in this city. They could even keep the store open.

We've got to say that's the idea of the year though do you think anybody would give it a try?
