Big news yesterday when the Province of Ontario announced that construction on MaRS Centre Phase 2 would resume after a three year delay. Phase 1 of the complex was completed in 2005, and phase 2 initially started construction in 2007. Work stopped in 2008 when the economy fell into recession. Below; renderings of the project.

Designed by Bregman + Hamann, the 20 storey addition will add 770,000 sq ft to the existing complex making MaRS one of the world’s largest science, technology and research centres. The Province is helping kick start the project by moving Public Health Ontario's central lab to the new phase. Once completed some 5,000 will work at MaRS, with thousands more spin-off jobs supported. In the short term some 4,000 construction jobs will be created.

Any way you look at it this is a major boost to the Toronto economy. Good to see it back! Many more renderings and details here in UrbanToronto's dataBase.
