Brandy Lanes Homes is not the most familiar name on UrbanToronto, but the developer is set to become much better known with their latest project, The Station, Condos on the Subway. The 14-storey project on Wilson Avenue, just east of the Spadina line subway station which serves the street, will help revitalize an area of Toronto which is attracting interest again after a slow decline.

SMV Architects is not the most familiar name on UrbanToronto, but the firm is set to become much better known with their latest project, The Station, Condos on the Subway. The 14-storey project on Wilson Avenue, in an area that has been lacking a contemporary vocabulary for years now, will bring a playful while still disciplined modern aesthetic to a street looking for a refresh.

See what we did there? That's right, we think we're cleverer than we really are, but we do have a point: we have two lesser known names that we want to talk about today, and we believe that their latest collaboration is going to result in good things for both of them, as well as for the neighbourhood. The Station, steps from Wilson subway, is going into an area that has been overlooked, and one which will welcome this boost. (Gramercy Park Condos to the east of it is bringing a similar improvement.)

We are optimistic for The Station as not long ago both firms created Loggia Condos, on the Queensway just west of Islington in southern Etobicoke. It brought modern sophistication to a street that has been dominated by 1950s and 60s strip plazas, and more recent big box developments and Vic-schtick/LoPo townhouses. Loggia's cool urbanity feels like a vote of confidence in an area that otherwise feels like a shrug of resignation.

Looking at some of The Station's details leaves us with little doubt that it will be any less transformational for its locale. As it is mere moments from a subway station, and a hop over the highway to Yorkdale Mall, you wonder how long it will be before Wilson Avenue has some real cachet. We have lots of detail shots of The Station in our databAse entry that make our points for us; here's one quick view of the smart glazing detail which catches our eye.

but before we wrap up, we have to mention another SMV-designed project downtown right now: the detailing at The Sorbara Group's 400 Wellington West condos has captured lots of attention on UrbanToronto lately. SMV, or Stone McGuire Vogt, are really getting the all the small things right here, and the finished product, not too many months away now, looks likely to be one of the year's favourites on UrbanToronto.

Will The Station end up on that list in a couple of years' time? There is reason to believe so!
