For months now the exterior rendering of The Daniels Corporation's 43-storey Cinema Tower condominiums, has been public, and regular readers of UrbanToronto will be familiar with it. For those with less than perfect recall, or those checking in for the first time, here is that rendering, viewing the tower from the northwest:
One rendering is often enough to get sales rolling for a condo project, but it's never quite enough for the eagle eyes of detail-happy UrbanToronto types, so we are similarly happy today to present a 360 degree tour of the scale model of the building: 8 shots of the tower, and 5 more focusing on the podium, to give everyone a much fuller idea of this building's Kirkor Architects design. We will start straight off with an aspect similar to the rendering, then rotate around the tower.
The tour reveals a complex shape for the tower which was never quite fully revealed in the rendering: most elevations are scalloped, from which a concrete frame extrudes a rise of units up the northwest corner. Let's take a closer look at the closer look at the podium now, starting with two renderings:
The sixth-floor terrace amenities begin to be revealed here, and more so on the scale model below: (and you can click on these images for greater detail)
Let's take a spin around the podium, starting at the southwest corner. To the right we get a first glimpse of the ramp leading up to podium parking levels: there are four above-ground parking levels hidden in the podium here, while four underground parking levels complete the garage.
Ending at the northwest corner again above, we see that the Adelaide Street frontage will include retail. Behind the trees on the Widmer Street frontage above, is venue space for Artscape to the north of the lobby. (Those spaces can be more easily made out in the podium rendering several images above.)
The Daniels Corporation has been very pro-active in providing spaces for the city's arts community in many of its projects. While that thrust may be most in evidence at the company's Regent Park cultural centre now under construction, the Artscape space at Cinema Tower shows the same belief in the vitalizing power of cultural spaces.
To round out our coverage today, we will take a look at one more rendering, and then zero in for a detail shot: the lobby, and the concierge desk. Note the decorative theming, something which we will delve into more fully in the future.
We will return to Cinema Tower shortly for a further look at the presentation centre, and to get an update on the current state of construction.
