There is an obvious condo boom in this city that's quickly gobbling up every parking lot in sight. We're glad the parking lots are disappearing but concerns do start to arise as the condos start to encroach on existing neighbourhoods. Today we look at the proposal for a 39 storey condo at 327 King Street West.

From Toronto City Councillor Adam Vaughan's newsletter:

The proposal is for a 129 m building, with a very small tower floorplate, at 486 square meters. The tower
setbacks from the property lines are 6m to the west, 5m to the east, 3m to the north, and 5.5m from the
centre line of the rear lane. The building is separated by 15-16 meters from the closest tower at the future
development at 355 King St W.

The site includes one listed historical building, a newer building (currently housing Z-teca Burritos), and
two heritage replica buildings that were reconstructed 30 years ago. The proposed redevelopment of the
site would retain the façade of the listed heritage building, demolish and rebuild the heritage replica
facades, and demolish the Z-teca building to create a glass façade for the residential entrance to the
building. The proposal seeks to retain the look and feel of Restaurant Row.

Here we see the project at street level.

The project in reference to current and future neighbours.

While it seems they have tried to "retain the look and feel of Restaurant Row" we hope that this will not be the death knell of the vibrant block. This is super special strip that deserves to remain as is.

The project is being developed by Dani Cohen with design by Page + Steele Architects / IBI Architects.
