Awful, cynical, developer cash-out. Top-dollar units. Bargain-basement materials. Architectural integrity trashed. Imperial Plaza redux.

I don't see why you would think people can't be concerned about both the building design up close plus how it is viewed from a distance and how it may affect views of other buildings. Just because a developer didn't get approval for their 1st proposal shouldn't mean they no longer care and put up the least interesting option out of spite (they shouldn't get less creative, it is then time for more creativity).

Exactly. The original proposal being opposed because of how it would have affected the view of Queen's Park has zero to do with subsequent designs being inferior. If the architect can't make something look just as good within those constraints then that's on them, not the city. Direct your anger at the developer and architect, people.

Well not really. Directing any bile at aA is not only misguided but incorrect. Remember that condo 'architecture' is essentially just applying a given motif to a repeated floor slab. The developer decides what they would like their return to be and tells the architect to apply their decoration over x number of storeys. At no point were aA in control of how many floors were to be erected here.

That Camrost dropped them and their former program and hired WZMH is more a reflection of the developer's desire to maximize profits with a cheaper architect and a smaller project than any ambition to create something lasting and truly beautiful with a more talented (and likely more expensive) firm like aA.
