Where to buy jugs?

From The Star, at this link:

It's official: You can buy 3-litre milk jugs
The Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission has added 3 litre containers as the newest size of milk that may come to a store near you.

A year after a decision to let Mac’s sell 3-litre milk jugs spilled over into an industry wide controversy, the commission that regulates milk sizes has made it legal for anyone to sell milk in 3-litre packages.

That’s a relief for Christina Lewis from the Ontario Dairy Council, who appealed the initial decision to let Mac’s exclusively try out a container size.

“If you’re going to make a decision, it should be available for everyone to try,†she said.

Lewis’ group represents Ontario’s dairy processors, including milk brands like Beatrice, Lactania and Organic Meadow.

The Dairy Council didn’t want Mac’s to have a head start on producing 3-litre packaging, arguing it might create an unfair advantage.

The appeal, which was scheduled to be heard next week, delayed the decision for Mac’s to try their 3-litre scheme.

The chair of the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission, which made the regulatory change, said the delays were frustrating for everyone. Geri Kamenz said there were far more benefits than risks in legalizing 3-litre containers.

“We said enough with process – it’s available now as an option,†said Kamenz.

Al Mussell, a dairy economist, says dairy farmers are in a tough spot because it’s uncertain what the impact will be. Consumers may choose to switch from 4 litre bags to 3 litre containers.

“The net effect might be that the farmers might end up selling less milk,†said Mussell, who is currently research lead at Agri-Food Economic Systems in Guelph.

The group that represents dairy farmers in Ontario says they’re not opposed to 3-litre containers.

“We are supportive if it supports growing the market and selling more milk,†said Graham Lloyd of Dairy Farmers of Ontario.

He notes that the introduction of 3-litre containers could go either way – people can choose to downgrade from 4-litres to three, or update from 2-litres to the new size.

Why don't we just sell milk in The Milk Store? Then we can sell milk at artificial fixed high prices. Have to control milk to those with lactose intolerant, but putting milk under some sort of government control.

Excellent idea. We can then let a foriegn consortium start up an alternate entity called The Dairy Store, where they will reap fantastic profits from colluding with the government-controlled Milk Store, which can't sell milk in bulk because that would eat into the profit margin of The Dairy Store. It'll all be cool!

You'll be able to get ice cream at the Dairy Store, but not the Milk Store.

Maybe we could go for an old-school name like Dairy Producers Retail.
Or have the Milk Store set up so that you can't actually see the milk; you write down what you want on a slip and wait for your order to be pushed along a conveyor belt.
