"We're funding a study. Look at us! We're doing something"
- The Government

If we're lucky, we'll only be subjugated to another decade of government talking about maybe building infrastructure. Let me know when the construction contracts are signed.

So is election season starting? Strange location but could this be the announcement for the Yonge extension?

This might be even less likely, but a 16th Ave GO Station might be at this location.

More likely that this is just some random accessibility thing.

It's a Del Duca announcement, with two local MPPs, at an immigration services centre. It's probably nothing.

Though the inclusion of Willowdale is interesting. Of course the MPP from Thornhill, who represents the area between WD and RH, is a Tory so her omission is understandable but noticeable. The Welcome Centre is actually a fed-funded program so this could be almost anything... Still, an actual subway announcement of substance is hard to imagine at this point.

And the announcement is....! Oh well. Sorry for bumping this thread.

Ontario Making G1 Written Test Available in Farsi
October 30, 2017

Licence-Knowledge Test Will Be Offered in 21 languages to Support Newcomers, Improve Road Safety
Starting next spring, Ontario's written knowledge test for a G1 licence will be offered in Farsi, to support newcomers in learning the rules of the road and improve road safety.

Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca was joined by Reza Moridi, MPP for Richmond Hill and David Zimmer, MPP for Willowdale, at the Welcome Centre Immigrant Services in Richmond Hill today to make the announcement.

Adding Farsi -- one of Canada's fastest growing languages -- will support newcomers to Ontario in completing their tests, learning the rules of the road and gaining the experience required to drive safely in the province.

The G1 knowledge test is currently offered at DriveTest Centres in 20 other languages - including Ontario's official languages of English and French. As part of Ontario's continued commitment to road safety, all new drivers must take a knowledge test as the first step the province's graduated licensing system. Beginner driver educations programs can also help teach the skills and attitudes needed to be a safe and responsible driver.

Making the G1 knowledge test available in more languages is part of our plan to create jobs, grow our economy and help people in their everyday lives.

I guess that explains why David Zimmer was there - 11% of his constituents list Farsi as their first language in the census.

surprised there was no mentions of "families or working middle class" catchphrases in the statement...

Del Duca just sinks to new lows every week. On the pathetic scale for photo-ops, with 10 being extremely pathetic, this just ranks slightly below the Tim Horton's announcement.
