TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Wait... how is grass difficult to maintain in the fall and winter? There is barely any maintenance required during that period. It goes dormant.

I still say the Stadler is the best one out there and it was the first One I saw and rode in 2012 in London. It set the bench mark for the rest of the trip with Siemens coming in at 2nd place.

Time to place grass in place of concrete.

Seeing as it's the waterfront, maybe some small fountains at each intersection could do the trick?

Flush mount so streetcars and emergency vehicles can easily drive over them, yet a visual cue to drivers and pedestrians that they shouldn't be there. Or even place a switch on the tracks that lowers the fountains as a streetcar passes.

That is an interesting perspective. They are +/-2 years late getting the CS into service....that is true. compare that to the delays at Boeing getting the dreamliner into service and they still look pretty good.
I can just imagine a Bomdardier rep saying that, "we may suck meeting our commitments, but we don't suck as much as the other guys". Being the least worst is hardly commendable.

Being the least worst is hardly commendable.

And yet software companies are some of the worlds biggest. "That sucks less" is a rather strong compliment for a software engineer.

Comparing Bombardier against what is typical for the industries they are in seems perfectly reasonable.

Software has gotten to the point where "it's good enough to ship, the bugs will be ironed out later" is viewed as a positive.

Bombardier denies report it is in talks with Siemens to combine their rail units

From this link:

Bombardier is denying a report that it is in talks with Siemens AG about combining its train business with the German conglomerate’s rail unit.

Bombardier spokesman Immo von Fallois declined further comment on the report Wednesday by the Wall Street Journal, which cited unnamed sources familiar with the matter as saying the talks are at an early stage and a deal is far from guaranteed.

Siemens spokesman Alexander Becker said the company doesn’t comment on speculation.

In May, Bombardier announced plans to launch its rail division as a separate publicly traded entity through an initial public offering.

Bombardier said it would retain majority ownership of the rail unit.

Bombardier Transportation, which is based in Berlin, is one of the largest suppliers of subway, streetcar and other rail equipment in the world.

What do you mean "gotten"?

It's always been like that.

Umm... No it hasn't. Back in the 90s, whatever code you shipped was the version people would be using forever. There was no such thing as updating the code to iron out the bugs after the software has shipped. So whatever you shipped to the public had better be as perfect as possible.
