I haven't been to UTM in years...I should really stop by and check it out.

The recent crop of buildings here are rather impressive. I like the way the football field is gradually being surrounded too - but still has some forest buffering it. It's an interesting amalgam of nature and sophisticated architecture.

It's interesting that while UTM is increasing its space, it seems to be doing so without much regard to an overall plan re: streetscaping and a common paving theme (I could be massively wrong here). A few simple measures could really decrease the car-dependent nature of the campus, even if many of the students attending classes here do commute by car.

That's a good point. Many suburban campuses don't seem to focus on the experience of walking around the campus as a pedestrian. A good campus plan would look at what makes the downtown campus great as a starting point. That includes a variety of attractive smaller buildings, fine-grained landscaping, public spaces like quads and sports fields surrounded by other campus buildings.

They do have a master plan that was updated a few years ago. I just skimmed through it, I think the focus was more on land use and transporation than paving/streetscaping http://www.utm.utoronto.ca/facilities/campus-master-plan

I can't figure a decent scenario for providing high quality transit to UTM beyond the current express bus arrangement.

Phase two is officially starting up with demolition of the last of the original North Building in March of 2016. A couple of renderings are available in the link as well, looks pretty good.
