I agree with you that the effect is stronger as presented. The zinc cladding feels like an added layer this way, like a decorative carapace. If the cladding totally engulfed the building it would just feel like, well like cladding. Keep it as is.

The white wall's just part of the massing and yes, it'll contain the garage entrance. It's an early architect's render, so sans details at this point.
 
This is sexy, and I'm even more excited because it seems Bathurst has been getting all these great midrise proposals as of late. The transformation continues.
