Toronto King Portland Centre and Kingly Condos | 57.6m | 15s | Allied | Hariri Pontarini

So do we know whether the final design has indeed had the curves value engineered out of it?

I wish I could still be excited about the architecture here, but it's just been watered down and played with too much for my taste. From a city-building point of view, it's still a strong mixed-use project that creates some great public spaces and pedestrian connections through the site and knits together the sites around it. But the arches have been awkwardly squared-out, the proportions have become clumsy, and the brickwork has become a really fussy trying-to-be-historical pastiche that is just too much for me compared to the clean lines of the earlier iterations.

This town has more than enough clean lines. We have great vernacular architecture, and (most) local firms seem to have forgotten that heritage. Props to HP for playing off of it in this design. Bring on that fussy brick!!!

From Today's Newswire - Indigo Head Office moving to King Portland Centre

Toronto, January 17, 2017 -- Allied Properties REIT (TSX:AP.UN) and RioCan REIT (TSX:REI.UN) today announced an important lease transaction in connection with the development of King Portland Centre in Toronto. Indigo Books & Music Inc. has signed a commitment to lease approximately 78,810 square feet of GLA in the new office space under construction at King Portland Centre, bringing the total leased area of the new office component to approximately 75%.

Full press release available at: http://alliedreit.com/wp-content/up...17_Press-Release-King-Portland-Centre-004.pdf

Also good news (from the release):
Indigo’s head office currently occupies 65,027 square feet over seven floors at Allied’s 468 King West, representing all the GLA in the building, including the ground and basement floors, which can more valuably be put to retail use. Recognizing the need to expand the size of its head office and to achieve efficiencies possible on larger floor plates, Indigo decided not to renew its lease at 468 King West, which currently expires on June 30, 2018, and will be extended as necessary to accommodate the move to King Portland Centre. On expiry of Indigo’s lease at 468 King West, Allied will upgrade the property and reposition the ground and basement floors for retail use with a view to boosting the NOI from the property in a material way.

Sounds like more retail is coming to King and Spadina.
