The design of the buildings looks pretty decent when you look at the renderings in isolation. Of course, context is everything, and that photo Jasonzed shows just demonstrates how barren and dispiriting the surrounding landscape is. New suburban housing in the 905 is really the worst of both worlds: you have the space, density and privacy of a downtown pad, but without any of the walkability, amenities, vibrancy and, frankly, tree cover. I guess it's cheaper, but at what point do you trade cost for livability? The old argument that you move to the suburbs to raise a family with all the extra space doesn't even exist in developments like these.

Actually, the Churchill Meadows area which is west of Winston Churchill from Eglinton to Thomas is not bad at all. Very walk-able, great for cycling, plenty of parks, trails, and protected forests and a good mixture of housing. Across the street and just further east are plenty of stores (box type), restaurants as well as Erin Mills Towncentre which is due for a massive overhaul and expansion. I wouldn't call this area barren based on the picture above. It's certainly not everyone's cup-of-tea but it's pretty decent. Winston Churchill and Derry is another story.
