Some of you need to travel outside Disney World and be a missionary in poverty-stricken, disaster zones. We have pictures of 0's that people try and make into their living quarters. They'd love to live in Daniel's version of a 0 and be in Canada.

Correct me if I am wrong, but that's not the target demographic - and if one uses the most downtrodden to justify poor design, one might as well give up now and forget about critiquing - ever.

This thing is an incoherent mess. I sure hope the units and amenities are great because from the outside it's just a pastiche of various ideas and cheap-looking execution.

Sidewalks are being poured today; bathroom tiling crews are doing their thing; the flat bed trucks are all lined up polluting our sacred environment; the skyjacks are lifting men high into the ozone and making a racket; the dog is looking at something maybe it's dinner in the trees?

Maybe the worst Daniels building to date. Anyone else find it amusing how Daniels has naming rights on UofT's architecture program, and yet still pumps out garbage like this? Doesn't really help the image of the students or faculty who have no choice which name appears on their diploma. Sure Daniels have some good builds in the city, but they aren't consistent or reliable enough yet for my liking.

Not quite the worst (that honour must go to the NY NY plex up at Sheppard), but close. Also this is not very DSAI - which has a history of producing far more sensitive (not to mention aesthetically agreeable) works.

Earlier tonight there was the official unveiling of the public art, which was hidden under tarpaulin and bubble wrap in the photos above. It's pretty cool. We'll have a front page story on it shortly.

Aldershot Landscaping screw up or not?

(Trees planted too close to curb)

The reason for this is hidden below-ground. As in the case of most city sidewalks, there were a number of utilities that required the trees to be planted abnormally close to the curb to maintain clearances.
