It appears that the last floor slab is thicker than the previous ones. Steel framing from now on?

This is a gorgeous building. I just wish there was a bit more articulation on the north facade. Another set of folds on the west side of the north face would add more visual interest.

Taken January 27, 2016:

So another 4-5 floors of mechanical penthouse and we're done.

It's a real shame that EY Tower wasn't at least 10 floors taller so that it could have more prominence on the eastern skyline, which it deserves, but at the same time, l do respect the shadow impact that a much taller building would have on Nathan Phillips Square and its surrounding context when viewed from there.

For goodness sake, would an extra 30-40 meters make a difference here:confused:, Ok maybe for 1/2hr. in January

Not so much for potential negative shadow impact, but more so for its massing in the context of the surrounding built form as viewed from Nathan Philips Square. As I stated earlier, I could live with another 10 floors, but a super tall like Aura in that location would not be appropriate from the NPS perspective (in my opinion). You want NPS to breathe and not be closed in by tall buildings that block the sky. To me, it's all about massing, built form context and protecting views to some extent. I agree with you that shadow impact is a red herring at times.

Shadow impact is the most tangible method of determining a building's impact on a given distant space, where wind strikes me as the most tangible impact up close. Consensus must identify the yardstick by which we measure impact on various contexts.
