SmartTrack (Proposed)

While 15 minute off-peak service is acceptable to some U.S. rapid transit (whether they be heavy or light rail) services, and maybe to some in the 905, here in the 416, 15 minutes is a l-o-n-g time to wait.
Which is why the recent ridership forecast for 15-minute service at GO fares was about ⅛ what it was with 5-minute frequency at TTC fares.

Metrolinx is not interested in serving Toronto - no surprise they'd choose the choice with the lowest ridership.

I've been to Atlanta and New York City, and waiting their normal 10 minute mid-day service seemed too long for a Toronto resident like me. Guess I'm pampered with our subway's 5 minute headways.
Could not have said it better

so again why must Toronto contribute 2.7B for a line that does not have the frequency of 5 min. How is it that its fare by distance from 905 yet as soon as it hits Toronto the fares should be lower than they are as the distance is shorter to get to Union but they are not

John did well in the election, because he was not Rob Ford. Period. SmartTrack was not a factor.

Olivia Chow isn't Rob Ford either but he walked all over her. Why?...............because transit was the voters top concern and Tory had the best plan and has shown the flexibility and respect for transit experts to make it better.

Then why does John Tory keep tossing pieces of his own plan out of the window, and putting in pieces of Chow's instead?

One it seemed like Tory had the lead on Chow, it just grew, out of fear of letting a Ford back in. We saw the same federally - Liberals and NDP were pretty close, but as soon at Trudeau got a bit of momentum, a lot of NDP support jumped ship, out of fear of Harper getting a minority.

Exactly. Not Ford? That wasn't enough. Tory had stiff competition from Chow. What swayed voters to pick Tory over Chow? A promise to cut their commutes.

We all know why. There's a reason though, that Metrolinx is now actually discussing how to offer up some kind of Smart Track type of service. Would never have happened without Tory. The RER plan is very 905-centric.

Last I checked we don't vote for mayor by borough. So are you suggesting that downtowners really support subways for Scarborough over LRTs. That's really interesting.

BTW, how'd Chow do in those areas? And how much an endorsement is that for LRTs, if Tory apparently lacks a mandate for Smart Track?

We all acknowledge that Ford was more popular in the boroughs. But between Tory and Chow, those same areas also had a clear choice for second place.

I think it's clear that voters want faster transit. Not just more access to it. For many that would be a subway. And for many that would be some kind of suburban rail. But how many of those Ford voters do you think would pick LRT over Smart Track?

Tory was a DISTANT second in Scarborough/Etobicoke/York in the Smart Track heartland yet the myth of his choo choo train legend won't die. Why do you keep lying?

See for yourself.

Only the well off areas voted for Tory and there's the proof.

Based on your map, you can't claim that SmartTrack had no role in Tory's victory. Even though he finished second to Ford in the north-western and north-eastern boroughs, he took 15% to 30% in most of those boroughs. Together with his strong results in downtown and North York, that was enough to secure his victory.

Had he failed entirely in the north-west and north-east, he would not win the whole race.
