Toronto 728 Yonge | ?m | 3s | Brook McIlroy

Application: New Building Status: Not Started

Location: 720 YONGE ST
TORONTO ON M4Y 2B3

Ward 27: Toronto Centre-Rosedale

Application#: 15 132345 BLD 00 NB Accepted Date: Mar 25, 2015

Project: Multiple Use/Non Residential New Building

Description: Proposal to construct a new 3 storey mixed use, commercial building (portion of the facade to remain and be reused). Proposal is for a two-storey "Shoppers Drug Mart" and seperate office uses on the third floor of the building. See also 14 139814 STE.

It's a stand-alone Shoppers, so it might be a big EIFS box on top of the old building... OR.. maybe the Weston's will do something cool and make this a "showpiece" Shoppers with a cool contemporary addition? Fingers crossed for the latter.

Gee:eek:, the city should be more concerned that the developer builds something that compliments the existing heritage structure,
than designating something that the owner has already agreed on

The property at 720 Yonge Street was listed on the City of Toronto Inventory of Heritage Properties (now known as the Heritage Register) in 1974. The site is the subject of a development application that proposes to retain the Robert Barron Building and construct a new three-storey commercial infill building to the south and west. The property owner has agreed to the designation of the property under Part IV, Section 29 of the Ontario Heritage Act.

Usually its better to designate it anyway, that way if Shoppers decides to sell in 5 years to a developer they have existing protections.

Strip the ugly paint off the corner building and renovate it, bin the other crap next to it, stick a tower in the back. Done.
