the quebec corruption report is finally out... and there are those that want a similar look into ontario...
GTA organized crime expert Antonio Nicaso said that the problems of Mafia infiltration into construction are not unique to Quebec.

Nicaso, who testified before the commission, said he was surprised that the Mafia skimmed 2.5 per cent from construction contracts, according to testimony before the Charbonneau commission.

That meant that mobsters got 0.5 per cent less than crooked politicians.

“That was a bit of a surprise,” said Nicaso, who has studied the Mafia worldwide. “Usually they (Mafia and politicians) share the same percentage.”

Civil servants and engineers made another 1 per cent, Nicaso noted.

Nicaso said that he welcomes the creation of an organized crime task force by the Ontario Provincial Police rather than another corruption commission for Ontario.

Nicaso said he was disappointed that the commission couldn’t compel key criminals involved in construction to testify.

Mafia boss Vito Rizzuto died of natural causes while the commission was ongoing.

Rizzuto’s one-time ally Raynald Desjardins went to prison for an underworld hit and never was forced to testify about his construction dealings.

Nicaso praised the commission for highlighting how the Mafia manages to connect the underworld with the so-called respectable world of politicians, bankers and unions.

“This is what the Mafia is all about,” Nicaso said. “You can’t have a Mafia without the politicians who help out.”

A visit to a farm known as a source for drugs had a man fined $1,000 by a Sarnia judge.

Corey Kiklas, 19, of Sarnia pleaded guilty Monday to the June 27, 2012 possession of oxycodone along with the Feb. 28 possession of marijuana and violation of a release condition.

Court heard that on June 27 police were watching a man believed to be involved with drugs. Kiklas was in a vehicle with that man when they visited a Strathroy-area rural property known as “the farm.” The man at the farm was a suspected drug supplier.

After the vehicle was stopped Kiklas was found with a rolled-up $5 bill containing oxycodone residue. The bill is referred to as a snort tube for inhaling drugs through the nose.

Another person in the vehicle had 14 high-strength oxycodone pills but Kiklas had no knowledge of the pills, said defence lawyer James Guggisberg.

On Feb. 28, while on a release conditions prohibiting his possession of drug paraphernalia Kiklas was found in a vehicle with a glass bong for smoking marijuana in the cupholder, a marijuana grinder and some marijuana residue.

The vehicle had been stopped after it had swerved into the wrong lane.

Kiklas admitted using drugs but denied an addiction and since his arrest has stopped using, said Guggisberg.

"It was a big mistake. I've moved on," said Kiklas.

Corey Patrick Kiklas, 20, pleaded guilty Tuesday to 12 offences, including four thefts, two possessions of stolen property and six court-order violations, between December and April.

Kiklas was on a ride he couldn't get off after starting to treat his depression with a potent painkiller, said defence lawyer James Guggisberg.

Kiklas would visit friends and, when he had a chance, he would steal items and pawn them. His thefts from six different people included an iPad, two guitars, jewelry and a computer tablet. Only some of the items were recovered.

The total value of the stolen goods was more than $6,000.

DC To Honor Crack Smoking Ex-Mayor With Statue and School

The District of Columbia marked the one year anniversary of former Mayor Marion Barry’s death with the announcement that it will build a statue of Barry outside City Hall.

A commission brought together by Mayor Muriel Bowser culled a list of 30 suggestions on how to commemorate Barry, a longtime D.C. politician who gained wide noteriety after he was caught smoking crack in a hotel room, down to just four.

Those ideas, according to Bowser, reflect the areas where Barry had the largest impact on the city — youth, education, community and government.

So to honor Barry, the city plans to erect a statue in front of City Hall, rename a road in his honor, rename Frank W. Ballou Senior High School in Ward 8 where Barry served as a councilmember, and name the new student center at the University of the District of Columbia after Barry.

Trump's truly gone full Ford now. He just makes stuff up, knowing that his base will buy anything he says and that if media questions anything it'll just fire them up even more. When you make claims just say you saw it firsthand or someone told you about it so it can't be properly debunked lol.

Wow, it's weird to read that tweet ("GUNA"?!?) and *then* everything else that followed it. Sure doesn't reflect well on any of the Fords' on-line defenders...
Corey and Dieter Kiklas sure have different views on the Fords. That comment that Ford can do whatever he wants on his downtime is ridiculous, and yet I hear it all the time. First of all, it wasn't just on his downtime. He was skipping work events to smoke crack and showing up at noon hungover. Also, he appoints someone to the police board and has influence over the police budget.

This comment on the Toronto Life piece is true:

Would you like your family under a microscope? I doubt it...You don't even have the guts to put your real name on this blog...

It should really only be the public figures under scrutiny. My family's full of addicts, at least four have been to prison for things like trafficking, robbery, getting into a high speed chase with cops, impaired driving, grand theft auto, two suicides... My record, on the other hand, is spotless, aside from doing acid a few times in high school and a lot of mushrooms.

I think he's going to be the next US president. A friend of mine in Michigan who is a Democrat was so happy he ran because she thought he could never win. I am pretty sure she's worried now.

That bit about one of Rofo's underlings being "roughed up" while trying to get Ford to leave a strip club and do his damn job is like an episode of Family Guy come to life. "Coming up next on FOX: Peter Griffin is elected Mayor with hilarious consequences!" Diane must be so proud!
