That's quite the pile of One Bloor East photos from the last 24 hours, but I say it's still 8 photos short of a complete update. Here are mine from yesterday evening, getting up close.

Thanks for all those shots. I'm looking forward to seeing the frosted balcony glass go up, as that'll be when we'll really see what this building is going to be all about. But I'm not entirely optimistic. I find the balcony glass already up on the podium to clash a bit too much with the cladding, and I'm not sure if, going up over 70 floors, this will make the building look too...unsubtle.

On a more positive note, i42's shots of the first floor mezzanine are really promising. Once the hoarding comes down I think the street-level experience will be really something. Whatever lands that retail space will have one of the best--if not the best--frontage in the entire city.

As for 'NYC-style Canyons', only a few come to mind, namely certain stretches of streets that run in the financial district, but even they don't contend the claustrophobic, tight and tall canyons lining avenues in Midtown Manhattan.

The really disappointing thing for me is that, even if our current development boom continues, we won't be getting any new canyons any time soon. The guidelines for tall buildings outlined in the official plan specifically call for tower-base form rather than canyon form in all but a few stretches downtown (stretches where the canyon form already exists).
