More Lost Toronto in colour

yes who can forget those fab plaid suit jackets of the early 70's! i real "what were they thinking??" moment...

If it weren't for the elephant-ear lapels, and if it were a couple inches shorter, the middle jacket wouldn't be terrible. Bet it itches like mad though.

Though to be honest, there's also at least a couple of hippie-ish looking dudes who'd transpose themselves to some modern-day Gladstoneish cultural event just fine...

Yes, they form a strong Concrete Toronto Modernist context that could have been creatively appropriated by the designers of several adjacent residential towers ... but, sadly, wasn't.

Yup, the London on the Esplanade developers really dropped the ball by not adding more concrete to the cityscape.

What happened to all that cool neon we used to have?

Notice the T-D sign already obscuring John Lyle's reliefs; as much as one regrets that a pub's replaced the bank, at least it's uncovered what was long covered.

Notice, bottom right: the beginnings of Conko The Clown. (I always wondered why nobody thought up Conko e-tabs back in the rave era.)

Great pictures and discussion!

Here are some more colour pics from my own postcard collection:

thank you--great collection of images! the colour printing of old post cards is always so distinctive. the long lost inks and presses add as much to the melancholic vibe as the images themselves....

They're also interesting representations of how we looked at ourselves, as to what would we would find interesting about this city that would warrant sending the image as mail.

Bassel's restaurant. In colour. Thank you. Thank you. Anyone remember their renowned Boston Cream Pie?

Who doesn't? Of course, Bassel's was for special occasions when you were downtown. The regular haunt was uptown at The Noshery on Eglinton, west of Avenue Road ("Kishka a la Tony" anyone?)

Are you taking the micky?

Great photos charioteer - looking forward to seeing further installments!
