Always interesting to see how main streets were often misaligned crossing Yonge.
 
Front St looking east from Bathurst, April 1954 and June 2016. The streetcar tracks on Front were in use until March 30, 1954 when the subway opened. Would have been interesting if they'd been left in place all the way across downtown.

I think the steel light pole on the south side today is the same one as the first relatively straight one in the 1954 view.

could you imagine if they had the foresight to build a subway line on king, or queen ..... I was just in montreal and took the subway everywhere...
I have to take a bus after a subway in Toronto which is so tedious and time consuming....

I absolutely remember the pony man. My dad had my photo taken on Montrose sitting on a pony when i was about four years old. Kids would always come running to see the pony man and the knife sharpening man and the ice cream man and the chicken man.
