Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Its what's underground at Don Mills that's what I'm interested in. Will there be one or two station boxes? One station box for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT and, hopefully, one station box for the Don Mills LRT/Subway/underground railway.
 
What the hell do you want? The Taj Mahal? It's a LRT station, which is effectively a gloried bus shelter. The more money they can save on this project the more money there is for other projects.

In this instance, it may become an important interchange station with the DRL Don Mills alignment, plus being a gateway to at least two tourist attractions (OSC, Aga Khan Museum) so something grander like this can be justified.

It's the interiors that are the most important since most people will either wait inside the station for trains or see the interiors of the stations from passing trains. Attractive stations relieve the monotony of underground transit. With that said, exterior pavilions can make streetscapes more interesting, which Eglinton would certainly benefit from. The buildings along much of Eglinton are modest and often boring.

That shouldn't matter. The same station name is used multiple times in other cities within the same system and we use several bus and streetcar stops multiple times as well. It's inevitable as any system grows.

From the existing EA report, you are correct. They'll need a new EA, or an update to the EA, to build any kind of additional station box for any kind of future DRL/Don Mills whatever.

The existing EA for Eglinton Crosstown shows a "Don Mills LRT" on the surface. Haven't seen any update. Therefore, if the existing plans say...

Seems like this would be a good forward looking thing to get done fairly soon...similar to the lower deck on the bloor viaduct...the last thing we need to be doing is digging up this station in ten years and shutting the crosstown line down for a year or two while it's built at a huge extra cost...

Who is the councillor up there, shouldn't they be requesting a redo of the EA for this station - or at the least ensuring the box and headwalls are put in so that we don't need to dig up the whole thing.

When do they start construction on it...when would the drop dead date be for figuring out a new plan?

The roughed in box at the new bus station at young is only costing a couple million dollars, so I would imagine the same would be true for doing something like that at this location.
 
Miller was obsessed with using LRT for absolutely everything, so of course Don Mills was LRT.

However, Don Mills is the downtown relief line. The Don Mills LRT proposal did not go south of Danforth, the downtown relief line goes all the way downtown. Extending the line all the way downtown puts demand far far above what LRT can handle. Metrolinx claims that a DRL going up to Sheppard/Don Mills will be as busy as the Yonge line.
