Frankly, an at-grade crossing should be enough. We're building an LRT so we can get away with cheaper crossing infrastructure.

Have you really waked that corridor and see where residents currently used to get across that corridor???

There are at least 4 location being used until the fence went up.

There are 2-3 location that could be use for crossing if agreement can be had between the city and the landowners. Tims & McD are 2 locations and have to pull the photos out to see the other locations. I have photos of that corridor before construction was started on it as to locations being used to cross it.

What is the different between here and the University area that use private property today for a crossing???

So you are suggesting that the city pays for a ROW over a commercial parking lot? Which (1) causes a risk of pedestrian/car collisions in the parking lot (and walking becomes permissible so it is a higher liability) and (2) cuts the commercial lot in 1/2 and limits future development of the lot?

This is exactly what a commercial owner would look at.

The University area...if I recall the LEGAL right of way was created a long time ago. Here there is no legal (or historical) ROW.

The noise of that Woonona crossing is assault on the ears. A beeper and a bell... why? Too much.

I'm not convinced. Portions of the Waterloo Spur are posted at 70, which if in MPH would be well beyond the Flexity's top speed of 80 km/h.

Surely that's for diesel locomotives.

They also don't have motorized gates that can freeze and malfunction in our cold weather. They just need to make sure people can't run/bike across the tracks without slowing them down.

At grade cross do propose a problem for people with disability. I'm not a big fan of building a bridge cause less than 1% of the pedestrians. Overpasses/underpasses need a lot of space to be accessible with a long ramp or elevators.

Construction is well underway - with track installation completed in many areas. First train is scheduled to arrive in December with service scheduled to begin early 2018. If that actually happens is another thing...

Here's another shot of uptown. You can see the judicious use of a planter system for under the sidewalk. The brand on these ones is Cupolex Rialto, as opposed to the Silva Cells I see talked about for so many Toronto projects.
