Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

Its my understanding, all the LRV will have 2 drivers when service start and thats a joke. As people stated, drivers to lazy to walk from one end to the other end as well a waste of money.

Operation is part of the whole contract for Grandlinq (including Keolis), so if it's a waste of money it's their waste of money and won't cost the Region of Waterloo anything extra.

Make no different, its lost money and maybe a reason Keolis is having issues with Boston

Not the best video and was expecting this before the tour.

Presumably it already has cost the Region of Waterloo money. I'm sure that Grandlinq isn't simply doubling their labour costs for train operation out of the goodness of their hearts.

If your source for that information is that woman from the LRV tour in your video, it seemed like she did not know what she was talking about, and just assumed two operators, because there are two cabs.

Nope!! From a few other people in the know.

I was surprise at hearing 2, when every other system that I have been on has had only one, including duel cars trains.

Like I stated, take things with salt and sure some miss info was given out.

Its possible for the first 6 months of operation that there could be drivers at each end with one training the other. Once done, one person will be driving from both ends and doing that walk from end to end.

I believe they do that for the first part of the inspection period the TTC does that when they first receive their new cars. You usually see them being twoed from Hill Crest by another one with the pole and pantograph down.
I think 4433 was the first to change that - no more towing, driven under own power.

Finally got all of the 250 photos I shot of the system that day as well the new LRV up on site.

A number of things standout from my Feb visit and doing some head scratching on them. On Northfield they have cut into the ROW an emergency u-turn with barriers between the tracks and assuming they are there until service start, otherwise, need to be replace if the u-turn is used. The other thing at the crossover at Conestoga Mall station is signals for the switches in the pit area. There are also snow melting blowers for each rail. To date, all the ramps for the station have been groove as a safety protection, but the Northfield station is saying concrete or X material is to go on it as well the platform. At each end of the platform is a 6-8" slab with a ramp area to cross the track. There are also a fair number of cameras on each light post.

What else is new other than BBD will not be delivering the 2nd car until Aug now. Have they yet to get the first car power and any on line testing been done as plan??

Vehicle was scheduled to arrive in June, will now arrive in late August or early September
I still say that Metrolinx is to blame for all of tier meddling and changes to the design and spec for the crosstown ones. They bamboozled Ion into think that the vehicle they had ordered would be available on time. Bombardier was smart in this case to turn to Ion and negotiate with them. If Ion didn't think Bombardier could delivery they probably would have gone to another manufacturer.
