Report going to Mississauga's General Committee on LRT stop hierarchy (starts on PDF page 26)
Did you noticed there is no stop at Shoppers World and the line stopping at 407??

What a joke.

It says in the actual report that Mississauga staff worked in conjunction with Brampton staff on this. It also said, when describing examples of stops that might receive which level, that "Gateway" (the Steeles Terminal) would be level 3. Obviously, the diagram shows the Mississauga portion to Mississauga's General Committee.

I think we'll probably see a similar version of this coming up soon. Is it a joke if that only shows Brampton's four stops?

EDIT: Not in the next planning meeting agenda. Oh well.

Matheson is a higher level stop than Britannia? I think that is odd.

Britannia is classified as an arterial, Matheson as an collector.

Britannia is one of the designated corridors, Matheson is not.

Britannia has full two-way all-day bus service (route 39), Matheson does not have two-way bus service at any time, not even during weekday rush hour. Furthermore, bus service on Matheson is in the off-peak direction, i.e. the buses travel westward away from Toronto and the industrial area in the morning rush hour. In other words, the Matheson buses are useless to most people in Mississauga.

Britannia is one of the long-term cycling routes of Mississauga, Matheson is not.

The Britannia corridor includes one Mississauga's community nodes, while Matheson does not have any major nodes, community nodes - no residential at all.

But Matheson is a more important stop than Britannia? Yeah, right.

Some pure dumb ranking and locations. Now, will see a Brampton Report on their 3 stops or can we say the LRT got kick out of Brampton 100% at this time, with a phase 2 down the road??

Plans for Hurontario Light Rail Transit Stops

Sep 21, 2016

At today's General Committee Meeting, staff presented a stop hierarchy for the Hurontario Light Rail Transit (LRT) to identify key stop locations along the corridor and set the framework for stop design in Mississauga.

“The Hurontario Light Rail Transit Project is a major City building initiative,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “The stops will be important landmarks in communities where people gather for travel to work, school, events and appointments. The stops will be what unifies the LRT with the communities of Hurontario.”

“Mississauga staff undertook a careful examination of the Hurontario corridor to identify stop locations that warrant more profile or an elevated level of design,” said Geoff Wright, Commissioner of Transportation and Works. “Metrolinx held a design excellence workshop in June with the Hurontario Light Rail Transit Ad Hoc Council Working Group and City staff to help set the hierarchy.”

“The transit stop is an important civic symbol and is considered to be an icon for mobility and connectivity between places and destinations in an urban setting,” said Joe Perrotta, Director Hurontario Light Rail Transit Project Office. “Through design, the transit stop can communicate something about its location, sense of place, land use setting, community character and history. The stop hierarchy factors in existing conditions along the LRT corridor and how Hurontario Street is to evolve and transform in the future.”

Stop Categories
Level 1 Stop: Mineola, North Service, Central Parkway, Matthews Gate, Bristol, Britannia and Courtney Park
A level 1 stop represents the base design for locations along the LRT corridor associated with stable areas, generally lower densities and areas of the corridor that connect with local neighbourhoods.

Level 2 Stop: Queensway, Dundas, The Exchange, Duke of York, Robert Speck, Eglinton, Matheson, and Derry
A level 2 stop builds upon the Level 1 stop with enhancements of stop design elements.
Level 2 stops are to visually express important destinations along the corridor that are significant citywide.

Level 3 Stop: Port Credit, Cooksville, Rathburn, Highway 407
A level 3 stop is the highest category of stop design. Level 3 stops characteristically represent important gateways and ‘entrances’ to the City that symbolize points of departure and arrival. They are also associated with significant places in the City such as the downtown or waterfront.

The hierarchy is an important framework and point of reference for the development of stop designs that will be generated by bidding teams through the Metrolinx procurement process. For more information read the corporate report: Hurontario Light Rail Transit Project Update: LRT Stop Hierarchy

About the Hurontario Light Rail Transit Project
The Hurontario Light Rail Transit (LRT) Project will bring 20 kilometres of fast, reliable, rapid transit to the cities of Mississauga and Brampton along the Hurontario corridor. New, modern light rail vehicles will travel in a dedicated right-of-way and serve 22 stops with connections to GO Transit’s Milton and Lakeshore West rail lines, Mississauga MiWay, Brampton Züm, and the Mississauga Transitway. The Hurontario project is part of Metrolinx's regional transportation plan to provide residents and businesses in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area with fast, convenient and integrated transit. Metrolinx will be responsible for implementing the project. Metrolinx will work in partnership with the cities of Mississauga and Brampton and other stakeholders to advance work on the project. For more information, go towww.metrolinx.com/hurontario. The Hurontario LRT project is funded through a $1.4 billion commitment from the Province of Ontario, the Hurontario LRT is a signature project of the Moving Ontario Forward plan.

Some pure dumb ranking and locations. Now, will see a Brampton Report on their 3 stops or can we say the LRT got kick out of Brampton 100%

Meanwhile, Brampton sticks with the omnibus.

Been absolutely zero hint/suggestion/reports that either of these would be the case.....so not sure why we would speculate on that.

Agreed. There will be stops north of the Brampton/Mississauga border to Gateway at Steeles. I'm not sure where the confusion is coming from.

You keep missing the part that says this is a City of Mississauga initiative, not Metrolinx. Why would the City of Mississauga include Brampton stops in a study done by Mississauga staff, and why would Brampton be ok with Mississauga staff dictating what their stops should look like?

It has nothing to do with the planning of the line itself. Yes, Brampton is still included in that.

I am well aware this is a Metrolinx thing, but it was started before it was by the city. The city has some say in this and expressing how I feel about it. If it was a true Metrolinx project, the loop would be remove from the plan.

Since there is only 3 stops in Brampton, Brampton going to be hard press not to accept Mississauga designs. Metrolinx payback for cutting the line.

One can say the way things are playing out, this line could open in phase as proposed years ago. Phase 1 407 to Sq One, Phase 2 Sq One to PC, Phase 3 to Brampton.

Metrolinx property acquisition for Mississauga LRT remains elusive

^ classic quotes from that article:

When asked why the information is available for Hamilton, but not Mississauga, considering the timelines, Barrasa said, “In the cases of Hamilton LRT and Hurontario LRT, Metrolinx and its municipal partners are working together to develop the conceptual design for the projects…The project teams determine when to initiate the property acquisition process.”

So Metrolinx says, essentially "speak to the municipalities". When the reporter took them up on that:

When the question of property acquisition was directed to the city of Mississauga, CAO Janice Baker forwarded all questions to Metrolinx.

This Billy Preston gem comes to mind

Maybe I'm missing something but is there any downside from a Brampton perspective of it "accepting" the "Mississauga designs"?

In terms of property acquisition, I'm a little unclear on which properties would be a challenge to obtain. The colour track plans are here as a reference. Light blue indicates new property lines and properties required (or parts of properties).

I've left off the Steeles to Brampton GO drawings because as we all know that's not part of the HuLRT project scope.
