Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

^possibly, would have to get a breakdown of the 502 ridership north of Nelson v Nelson south to know for sure...but yes, the 501 does deliver some people to the main terminal there.

Current numbers matter somewhat, but I think AD2W or RER into Brampton GO will change the dynamics big time. It will slant it even more towards transfers at that location and less to through movements.

Not sure how big an impact would be with either option.....more so with ReR than simple (as we know it) AD2W....and only the latter is planned for Brampton.

Mississauga and Metrolinx had their first joint planning secession today for the LRT and the next one is in 2 months.

In September or October, a full public secession for the LRT will be held at T.L. Kennedy High School by Mississauga and Metrolinx to talk about all the issues that will take place for the building of the line and a Q&A.

Metrolinx is buying all the land surrounding the Cooksville station as one complete block. The station will be rebuild closer to Hurontario as well the new bridge over it. My take is there will be access from the bridge to the LRT platform.

Metrolinx is kicking in an extra $50 million to cover the cost of burying the hydro overhead as well for beautification along the route.

The solution is simple...and I'm surprised that the staff didn't include it in their report....

Build LRT on Main...AND build it on the other routes that are being advocated...

Problem solved...

LRT is nice like that, you don't have to build one route...in fact building multiple routes makes it even better!

Beauty! I wish the same could be done for Port Credit GO.

Just got back from the planning committee meeting in Brampton....and the tunnel option(s) were, well, buried.

Council voted 10-0 (one councillor on vacation) on a) further study of either tunnel option and b) setting aside the $2.5MM that staff had requested to study those options further.

Council then voted on a motion put forward by Councillor Spovieri to direct staff to, for the first time, engage "experts" to present cost benefit analysis on 3 of the alternative routes. It was then moved that, rather than collectively, each of those be separate votes.

  1. Elevated through the park.....studying this received 8 yes votes and 2 nays....so it will be studied
  2. Steeles to Kennedy to Queen to GO.....studying this received 8 yes votes and 2 nays....so it will be studied
  3. Steeles to McLaughlin to Orangeville railway to GO...studying this received 4 yes votes and 6 nays....so will not be studied.
Long meeting (was the 8th agenda item)....and some predictable goings on...but that is the gist of it. Unless something strange happens, the route from Gateway to DT GO will not be up Main (either surface or tunnelled).

It's a little too early to say it will not be going up Main. The Kennedy route isn't funded. The reality is we won't know until after the 2018 Provincial and/or 2018 Municipal election.

I really dont understand whats with the hardons on tunnels these days, especially if they dont have the money to ask for it. Sure it looks good, but is it the do or die option?
The majority of the Brampton city council seriously should be impeached with their lack of vision and logic when they voted down a free LRT line over ideological grounds

Thanks for the info!

My summary of the voting was concise....at the last vote they removed surface on main from future consideration....in this vote there was a big pause as it looked like staff was just going to remove the tunnel from the vote but the councillors wanted it specifically voted on to, also, kill it and "remove it from future consideration".

Reject LRT along Main because it "has nowhere near the ridership needed" and "little potential for future intensification", but let's study longer, more expensive routings elevated through a park or along Kennedy Road instead. Makes perfect sense.
The strongest support to consider the Valley route came from one the supporters of the Main route...her logic was that since main was killed she wanted to support the shortest route that most closely replicated what she wanted in first place.

The support to consider going up Kennedy was driven on the higher redevelopment potential of Kennedy.......the #7 route now apparantly gets ~50% of the ridership of the combined 2/502....all seemed to agree that if it were routed up Kennedy "big things would happen on Kennedy"...even going so far as to say (the councillor above that supported the valley) if you route it up Kennedy say goodbye to downtown, this will be your new main street".

The surprise to me (once they got to the point that they were going to study some alternative routes) was that they killed the McLaughlin route from study. I am not saying it is a good route ....but at least it has development potential on Steeles and would serve decent ridership at Sheridan.....again, not saying it is a good route but if you are going to study the other 2 why not through this into the pot?
