GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

It's good to see all these bits getting done. I wish ML would do more to communicate how the enhacements all come together. Seems to me these bits won't be of much use until other choke points e.g. Davenport get resolved. We may have expanded track and stations that don't see more frequent trains for a while yet.

Does anyone know the status of the John Street pedestrian bridge in Weston? Seems GO has pretty much scrubbed the old GTS site.
Given what I saw a few months ago, it should be open now, but no word from Metrolinx on it.

Its on my do list this week and not sure which day it will be at this time.

Single track choke points are fine. From the diagram I've seen earlier in the thread there will be enough double trackage for hourly service on the Barrie Line.

Minor update... I was in Whitby on the long weekend, and it looks like the South Blair Street underpass is almost open, just west of the East Rail Maintenance Facility (ERMF). The bridge has been done for a while, and the road underneath is paved.
The ERMF itself is forging ahead. The main buildings' skeletons are up, and they are being enclosed. While driving up South Blair Street from Heydenshore Pavilion and the lakefront, I saw an unopened road leading eastwards from Blair. I believe this is access to replace the bridge that carries Hopkins St over the existing tracks at the eastern end of the ERMF, which I believe will be removed. There is a building on the east side of that bridge in line with the others of the ERMF, and tracks between then would go through the road embankment north of the bridge.

Bloor Station
Hello Metrolinx and what happen to the accessibility ramp for the east platform??? Until track 1 is install within the next 10 years and an elevator/stairs are built under it from the RailPath, you need an accessibility ramp to the east platform. Or are you expecting accessibility community go all the way to Bloor front entrance to gain access to the platform?? Lets see what happens between now and 2025 that will force you to built that ramp. While you are at it, you better check the stairs to see if they meet code as it sure didn't fell right using it today. Make note to take tap measure with me the next time I am in the area. Still a lot of landscaping to to done as well installing fencing.

Dundas Barrier
The tagging that was there the last I saw the barrier wall is gone and replace with new stuff. You can see the outline on the Plexiglas where tags have been removed. The based of the wall up by Dupont is heavy tag, with various section of Plexiglas tag all the way to Wallace Bridge.

John St
This bridge will not open until late June, as it is missing the stainless steel mesh barrier over the tracks, walkway to be built across the CP track and finish building John St on the east side of CP track. Other than that, a few house cleaning to be done to open this bridge.

Not sure when I will have photos on line and about 800 down the list at this time.

Nitpick: It's accessible, but only if you are prepared to walk through an area signed as a fare-paid zone.

I would hope that a casual pedestrian/cyclist passing through would not be ticketed unless they loitered or tried to board a train, but that's perhaps wishful thinking.

Think you misunderstood; not accessible as in someone with a mobility device can't access it. There's stairs and no ramp.

Does GO ever actually ticket people for being on the platform without paying? I never liked that rule, it should really only be on the train that you can get ticketed for.

The only place that I have witnessed it is at Union Station. I've seen the fare enforcement threaten it, but never more than that on any other platform on the system.

I have also seen them not bat an eye at people using tunnels and stations as shortcuts from one side of the tracks to the other.

South Blair underpass opened today.

Another great photo-op for Steven Del Duca.

“Our unprecedented public transit investments are making transit a better choice for commuters. This is further proof of our government’s commitment to making the daily commute more convenient and the quality of life better for Ontario families.”
