To design, build, finance and maintain the new Phase 1 Patient Tower Project at Etobicoke General Hospital. This is a part of a phased EGH Redevelopment Plan. It involves the construction of a new patient care wing (the Patient Care Wing) including a new main entrance and lobby, as an addition to the existing EGH, incorporating public spaces connected to the ravine landscape and community, creating a new public face for this important community institution. The four-storey, new Patient Care Wing, which is expected to be approx 250,000 sq ft, will be attached directly to the existing EGH patient tower and podium, at multiple levels, for patient transfer. It is expected that the Patient Care Wing will achieve LEED Silver certification (2009). The new Patient Care Wing will accommodate acute and sub-specialty clinical services, support services as well as administrative services. Some features of the project include: - a larger, state-of-the-art emergency department to support best practices in emergency care; - an ICU/CCU that is nearly four times larger than the current space. Larger patient rooms will be filled with natural light and provide privacy and space to comfortably accommodate family members; - a maternal newborn unit with birthing suites and a specialized Level II nursery; - an ambulatory procedures unit featuring procedure/operating rooms, pre and post-op preparation and recovery areas and dedicated clinic spaces, including a respiratory clinic.
 
Should the Finch West LRT actually get built to at least Humber College, hopefully there will be some sort plan (a skywalk would be nice) to connect the terminal station to the hospital. Having patients, visitors, and staff walk across the busy Hwy. 27 and using a windswept sidewalk is not a good plan.

ETOBICOKE — Today, Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and William Osler Health System
announced three teams shortlisted to design, build, finance and maintain the new Phase 1 Patient
Tower Project at Etobicoke General Hospital.

Based on an open, competitive request for qualifications process that began in October 2014,
three teams were shortlisted and will be invited to respond to a request for proposals, expected to
be issued in April 2015. Each of the teams includes a developer, design/builder, finance group
and a facility maintenance provider:

o Construction: EllisDon Design Build Inc.
o Facilities management: Johnson Controls Canada L.P

The Phase 1 Patient Tower Project, involving the construction of a new four-storey wing, will
add approximately 250,000 square feet of space to the existing facility and house the services
most urgently needed by the Etobicoke community. Some project features include:

 a larger, state-of-the-art emergency department to support best practices
 an ICU/CCU that is nearly four times larger than the current space
 larger patient rooms that are filled with natural light and provide privacy and space to
accommodate family members
 a maternal newborn unit with birthing suites and a specialized Level II nursery
 an ambulatory procedures unit featuring procedure/operating rooms, pre- and post-op

Etobicoke General redevelopment to begin this spring
Larger emergency department, ICU and CCU, and expanded outpatient services part of $250-million plan

The north Etobicoke hospital’s $250-million redevelopment will be comprised of a state-of-the-art, four-storey patient tower as well as a seven-storey ancillary services building, which will replace its existing medical building.
Construction of both buildings is expected to begin this spring.

Etobicoke General is across the street (Highway 27) from Humber College North Campus. How were they able to handle the 200+ patient norovirus outbreak last week? Would a similar (hopefully never) outbreak with the expansion be handled differently?
