True, but (not to be pessimistic - I'd want them on all night) I think during foggy or low-cloud cover days, which are not as uncommon as you'd think at those heights, the outward facing lights would create a fairly bright echo in the night... Maybe they'd turn shut them off during poor visibility days.

Light pollution is light pollution, regardless of direction. Yes it doesn't shine directly into the unit, but it adds brightness to the sky overall. Not that I'm complaining, cuz I like the lights.

Lots of people have been wondering about the lights shining into units, I found this tidbit from Color Kinetics when they installed the LEDs on the CN tower.

The directional nature of LED sources means that the output can be precisely directed, and will not “spill” or interfere with nearby hotels, office towers or residences.

Makes sense they are using directional LEDs on Aura also.

Driving in last night on the Gardiner and my kids were wondering what those lights were. The floors below were dark so it looked like the lights were hovering in the sky. Looked very cool.

On a side note, in Kris' last pic, nearly the entire face of the Yonge-lined portion of the southwest corner of Y&B looks so depressing with those crumbling structures in darkness, now that it is all hoarded up. It doesn't help that there are no logos or images on the boards hinting of what is to come. While only temporary, it's amazing contrast to what you have across the streets. It's like a block of Detroit landed here.
