Toronto TYSSE: Downsview Park Station | ?m | ?s | TTC | AECOM

Today I went on a site visit and I decided to share what I saw.

Apparently those two cranes are in the flightpath of the airport runway, so the booms must be lowered whenever a plane takes off or lands.

This is the concourse level.

Expect to see plenty of natural light in both the concourse and the platform, even after the roof is built.

Even from down here you can still see the sky.

Neat, I've just been looking at pictures of the flooded York box and didn't realize that other stations were actually taking shape. I'm sure someone will complain about how overbuilt it is, but it will be nice to see natural light from the platform. What's that big flat area beside track level in the second- and third- last pictures? Too low for a platform, so is it just an access area for maintenance and such?

It does look kinda low but from the public plans I've seen that still seems to be platform area?

Kinda low? That's like three or four feet too low to board the trains from. If you look a couple pictures at the one with the scaffold set up in the track pit you can see just how much of a difference there is between track level and platform level. And I can't see them putting a subfloor there either because you can see the door frames just off to the side.

Then wouldn't those door frames be too low once they bring the platform up? Or is my perspective off?

If those are 8 inch cinder blocks (common size) then the doorway is about 8'6" high.

They'll bring the floor of the room up to platform level too; perhaps with an access hole for getting underneath the platform for future maintenance. TTC might run plumbing, electrical, or other utilities under the platform.

The 70-300 I had use of over last weekend would have been ideal for this shot, but alas this had to be taken with the cellphone. I'll get around to photographing all the stations with a proper camera.

Downsview Park, west station building. The east building doesn't have its steel structure up yet.

What a colossal waste of money. I don't understand why this station needs such a huge building. TTC could have built a small footprint for this station as it will get very low usage.

I would rather them overbuild now because the land is unobstructed. once development encroaches which will happen eventually, the cost to expand will only increase exponentially. Note: This station will also be connection point with GO transit.

I agree, I expect in 10 or 20 years this will be as busy as Yonge-Bloor and if there is no room to expand, we would be in a tough spot.:)

Except that you cannot build a lot around the station, as you have the airport and a large park.
