Georgetown has less than zero visibility on UrbanToronto, no surprise why, with it mostly being a Geography of Nowhere type of exurban town — — — but its old downtown is rather interesting, not being on the main route through town, so it has been passed over by the bigboxification which has gone on along Highway 7. That means that there are a number of heritage buildings left, and that there is revitalization needed. We're just getting a first look at this now, and I am looking forward to finding out more about how well this place will fit into the area. This development is located, by the way, within walking distance of the Georgetown GO station, so it's already within Downtown Toronto's commuter-shed, and may be much better served by GO RER in the future, if RER extends beyond Bramalea.

McGibbon project officially cancelled due to 'circumstances beyond our control,' developer says

News
Dec 05, 2018 by Veronica Appia

For condo purchasers who have spent months waiting to hear whether or not the stalled McGibbon project will move forward, the answer came in email form in the afternoon on Dec. 4.

"It is with tremendous regret that we must inform you that The Residences of The Hotel McGibbon project has been cancelled because of circumstances beyond our control that make the project un-financeable," the email from Silvercreek Commercial Builders Inc. stated.

The email goes on to inform recipients that their deposits will be refunded by trust cheque and sent by registered mail on Dec. 5.

Looks like this is being relaunched by a different developer as "McGibbon on Main".

Older article from October 2020 but it gives some brief commentary on this project's ressurection:

“What I can tell you right now, is that Amico has filed a planning application with the town,” Mayor Rick Bonnette said. “We are very excited that they have expressed interest and indicated that they will respect many previous elements that were approved as part of the former developers’ application such as maintaining the ten-storey height and the heritage façade on the outside of the building.”

The Town of Halton Hills confirmed that staff is working closely with Amico representatives to advance the project. In accordance to the Planning Act, the McGibbon development will be subject to a public process providing the opportunity for community and stakeholder input.

It used to be penthouses where regarded the most premium part of the residential and used to show. Maybe they still are. They would have to pay for me to live there now...oof, indeed! >.<

Designed by the IBI Group:

Set in the heart of historic downtown Georgetown, the McGibbon on Main is a boutique building consisting of 10 storeys, and 169 suites. This intimate building’s base is grounded in the history of the original McGibbon Hotel. The classic 1890’s red brick base and facades have been restored to act as the podium for a cascading series of urban condominiums. Beautiful 2-storey lofts on the top floor and expansive terraces. Enjoy Georgetown’s perfect balance between urban and rural living. Make some history. Welcome to the McGibbon on Main!
