A Site Plan approval application has been submitted to the city for a new 4 storey addition to east side of existing Drake Hotel. Addition will be constructed on 1140, 1142 and 1144 Queen St W, which will become part of the hotel. The Drake has partnered with ERA Architects Inc. on the expansion along with an unannounced international firm.

Here's the site from Google Streetview images. (The Saigon Flower house is not part part of the expansion.)

This is the thread. The Drake has 19 rooms. Is that how many it opened with? If so, the expansion didn't happen.

There is also The Drake Devonshire in Prince Edward County now though…

Seems like this is still on. The project is going to the Committee of Adjustment on January 20.

"PURPOSE OF THE APPLICATION: To alter the existing three-storey hotel by constructing a five-storey east side addition in order to increase the number of hotel suites from the existing 19 suites by adding an additional 32 suites within the building."

Looking at the Minor Variance, it got it. Approvals in place just like that, this is how midrises should get approved. This will be 18.5m tall.

I don't care for it. Way too messy, especially with new windows overlapping old ones. I can't wait for the randomly assorted windows trend to die already.
