Agreed. That podium rendering, and the various close-ups, are not convincing. They aren't that near-photographic quality thing we see usually on UrbanTO, so that might have something to do with it, but I'm having a hard time marrying the description in the story above with the rendering. It's left me with a bit of an uneasy feeling about this project, but it can't turn out as bad as the rendering, can it?

Project: Multiple-Use Building New Building

Description: Proposal to convert existing commercial building (Hotel) to a mixed use building and construct a new 39 and 10 storey mixed use building (64 458sq.m) Buildings comprised of commercial on ground and second floor with residential above and five storey below grade parking.

Of course it was. What's your point, or the point of your smiley? When Menkes sold this to Camrost, there was approval for a second tower included. The only thing really new in application above is that there's also a 10-storey building planned on part of the site.

The redone podium (as projected by renderings) looks like shite.

Ugh... slapping a bunch of glass on something. How creative.

Y don't they travel around the world and get inspired, use some stone, some brick some nice classy design??!!! Everything is glass glass and more glass!!! They will ruin the whole look of yorkville.

Can someone please clarify what's going on here? Why does the Sept. 30 application that is noted above say "and construct a new 39 and 10 storey mixed use building"? My understanding was that unless the current hotel is demo'd it would be impossible to construct a second tower.

Also, the renderings that Camrost has posted only show the existing tower. What's going on?

Whoever owns Uno Prii's Prince Arthur Towers seen in the background of this photo is maintaining the tower beautifully, especially compared to the average Prii tower on Walmer Road. If you walk by it, one gets the impression that it's a high-end property, and the beauty of Prii's architecture is really striking.

^ They are planning to add another tower and a smaller addition to the current building.

that's not what any of Camrost's new renderings for the project show....plus look at the site, there's no room for a second tower. the previous scheme allowed for two towers only because the current building was slated to be demolished. now that it's being kept and refurbed there's no space for a second tower.

can someone who is "in the know" please clear this up for us?
